| Dental Van Because adult Medicaid
dental resources are virtually non-existent, the Dental Van
plays a big part in helping people who cannot afford dental
care -- those in severe pain from untreated dental problems
to others with such poor dental hygiene that they are
embarrassed to open their mouths. Each year, the Dental Van helps about
350 people who are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
Volunteer dentists are the heroes of this dental program,
for it could not exist without them. Other partners
who have worked with SCCAA since 1998 include the Skagit
County Health Department, United Way, and Northwest Medical
Team International.
The state-of-the-art van regularly visits Anacortes,
Mount Vernon, and Sedro-Woolley. Procedures include
restorative care, root canals, extractions, and other oral surgery.
