Mobile Food Express |
|
The Mobile Food Express Program serves low-income homebound individuals
and families throughout Skagit County, including Anacortes, Burlington,
the East County Community, Mount Vernon, and Sedro-Woolley. The program
partners with the Alger Food Bank, Anacortes 100 Food Bank, Helping
Hands Food Bank, Neighbors In Need Food Bank, Salvation Army Food Bank,
and Viewcrest Food Pantry to bring nutritious food to the homes of
elderly, disabled, and homebound adults and families. This program
utilizes the help of many volunteers and we are very appreciative of
their commitment to alleviating hunger in Skagit County.
In 2005, the Mobile Food Express Program
distributed 33,234 pounds of food in Skagit County to 125
low-income households, comprised of 176 individuals. Of the households
receiving services, 72% were disabled, 47% were elderly , and 8% were
families with children. We
also helped break the loneliness and isolation that many home-bound
people experience through acting as a link to a broader community of
support.
The Mobile Food Express
Program is in need of volunteers! Please click on the link below to

Food Stamp Education
The Basic Food Education program provides
information and advocacy to low-income individuals and
families to assist them with the completion of the food
stamp application process. Research shows that only a small percentage of
families eligible for food stamps actually receive them. Each year, 2,000 households
in Skagit County receive food stamp education, and over 800 of
those households complete and submit applications for
food stamp assistance.
