The
Community Voice Mail program provides free voice mail boxes for up to 180 days.

Our Critical Needs
program helps low-income individuals with emergency help in the form of food and
clothing vouchers.
Dental Van
The Skagit County
Mobile Dental Van plays a big part in helping people who cannot afford dental
care. The Dental Van regularly visits Skagit communities to provide dental
care to low-income individuals.
East County Services
SCCAA's East County
satellite office in Concrete provides basic services including critical needs
assistance, legal assistance, and energy assistance.
Energy Assistance
Winter
home heating and electricity costs can hit hard, and Community Action offers three programs to
help.
Food
Our Mobile Food
Express collaborates with county food banks to provide food packages to the
homebound and disabled. Assistance with food stamp applications is also
provided to
low-income individuals. We also oversee a Food Bank Distribution Center which
works to increase the quality and quantity of food for Food Banks and Meal
Programs in Skagit County. Also check out the Skagit Food

Homeless Childcare Program
The Homeless Childcare Program
provides an opportunity for homeless families to search for employment, find
housing, and to access other social services and medical appointments that will
aid them in establishing a residence of their
own
Housing
SCCAA's housing
program provides homeless families with shelter and housing, and helps them
become self-sufficient.
Legal
SCCAA's Volunteer
Lawyer Program offers free legal assistance including family law, bankruptcy,
and domestic violence issues, to eligible low-income Skagit County
residents.
Literacy
Free tutoring is
available to adults and their family members who need
assistance in basic reading, writing, math, GED preparation, family literacy,
and English as a second language. Workplace literacy services are also
available.
Maternity Support Services
Nursing, counseling,
and nutrition services are provided to pregnant women and infants.
Medical Assistance
Prescriptions,
eyeglasses and other medical supplies are available to low-income families.
Referrals to volunteer optometrists for eye exams and to other resources for
breast mammograms are also offered.
SHIBA (Statewide Health
Insurance Benefits Advisors)
Effective February 1, 2007, SCCAA will no
longer be operating this program. Please direct calls requesting Medicare or
health insurance and prescription information questions to the Office of the
Insurance Commissioner’s SHIBA HelpLine at 1-800-562-6900.
Veterans Assistance
Assistance for
emergency needs, referrals, and advocacy is provided to low-income veterans,
their dependents, widows, widowers, and orphans.
VISTA
The AmeriCorps*VISTA
program develops projects that directly impact poverty in Skagit County.
Volunteers are placed in non-profit agencies for one year to further develop and
establish these programs in the community.
Volunteer Center
SCCAA's
Volunteer Center promotes volunteerism to meet the needs of Skagit
County's low-income.
Volunteer Chore Services
Volunteers provide
direct services to frail, elderly, and disabled adults, such as minor home
repair, housekeeping, shopping, and yard work.
Washington Reading Corps (WRC)
The Washington Reading Corps (WRC) AmeriCorps
team-based program is proud to be a part of the Skagit County Community Action
Agency. The mission of the Washington Reading Corps is to improve reading
abilities of K-6 students across Washington State. This is achieved through
research-based tutoring of struggling readers and effective collaborations among
schools, families, community members, National Service, businesses and state
partners
Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
The Women, Infants &
Children Food and Nutrition Program provides free food and nutrition education
to help give children a healthy start in life.
Specialized Breastfeeding Support
services include access to electric breast pumps and other aids to assist
working mothers and those who experience premature birth, illness, or other
breastfeeding challenges.
