The Volunteer Center is an essential
partner in improving the quality of life in Skagit County through the
recruiting and placing volunteers, supporting nonprofit organizations to do
their important work well, as well as connecting people to information and
resources that lead to the delivery of effective community service. We take
pride in…
 | Expanding awareness of volunteer
opportunities through the website
www.1-800-Volunteer.org
|
 | Increasing community capacity through
the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program |
 | Providing professional education and
technical assistance to volunteer program managers. |
 | Promoting volunteerism through
partnerships with schools, congregations, civic organizations, businesses
and media. |
 | Coordination of the Volunteer Chore
Program, serving low-income seniors and disabled adults. |
 | Managing the Statewide Health
Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) Program, providing trained volunteers
to educate, assist, and advocate for consumers about their rights and
options regarding health insurance, so consumers can make informed
decisions. |

AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in
Service to America) |
|
The Volunteer Center
AmeriCorps*VISTA Program
started in 1988. Through the Corporation of National and Community Service,
we place VISTA members in a variety of non-profit agencies throughout Skagit
County. The VISTA program develops projects that directly impact the needs
of Skagit County’s low-income population. VISTA volunteers are placed in
non-profit agencies for one year to establish and further develop these
programs in our community. |
