The Volunteer Center

>Volunteer with Skagit Literacy

The Volunteer Center is an essential partner in improving the quality of life in Skagit County through the recruiting and placing volunteers, supporting nonprofit organizations to do their important work well, as well as connecting people to information and resources that lead to the delivery of effective community service.  We take pride in…

bulletExpanding awareness of volunteer opportunities through the website www.1-800-Volunteer.org
bulletIncreasing community capacity through the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program
bulletProviding professional education and technical assistance to volunteer program managers.
bulletPromoting volunteerism through partnerships with schools, congregations, civic organizations, businesses and media.
bulletCoordination of the Volunteer Chore Program, serving low-income seniors and disabled adults.
bulletManaging the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) Program, providing trained volunteers to educate, assist, and advocate for consumers about their rights and options regarding health insurance, so consumers can make informed decisions.

Visit Skagit County's Volunteer Center website at www.1-800-Volunteer.org.

With over 75 organizations partnering with the Volunteer Center, our database of volunteer opportunities proves to be a valuable resource for those looking to serve their community.  The website is made possible through a partnership with the Washington State Volunteer Centers Association, the Points of Light Foundation, the Volunteer Center National Network and 1-800-Volunteer.

AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America)

The Volunteer Center AmeriCorps*VISTA Program started in 1988.  Through the Corporation of National and Community Service, we place VISTA members in a variety of non-profit agencies throughout Skagit County.  The VISTA program develops projects that directly impact the needs of Skagit County’s low-income population.  VISTA volunteers are placed in non-profit agencies for one year to establish and further develop these programs in our community.
